The Wiz is an enchanting
show that enthralls audiences of all ages. Spellbinding magic and hysterical comedy
create a fun atmosphere where kids quickly discover that through reading anything is
possible.
The adventure begins with
Robert the Reading Wizard introducing the kids to Merlin – King Arthur’s court
magician. Traveling back in time,
aided by the historical novel “Christmas in Camelot”, the kids learn that Merlin lived during a
time of kings, queens, knights, dragons, hair-raising exploits, and great magic. The kids
gasp as they watch a bird come climbing out of Merlin’s goblet.
Next, a riot
of laughter ensues when a young audience member – inspired by Strega Nona’s “Magic
Lessons” – attempts to perform the opening ceremony that will officially start the
show.
From there
on its non-stop action as eight different books are featured and then illustrated with magic and
illusion woven throughout their pages. Age appropriate books are selected based upon
a graduated scale for kindergarten through fifth grade.
Robert uses interactive
theatre, audience participation, story-telling, comedy, music and magic to help kids uncover the
rewards found within the pages of a book.
Like all of our themed
reading shows The Wiz focuses on books and literacy. Librarians love our shows because we pack a
powerful message that motivates kids to read. Kids love our shows because they are just
plain FUN!
